Akumal is a sleepy beachfront community that draws visitors worldwide for diving, snorkeling, fishing and just plain relaxing. Akumal is split into several small communities. Main Akumal Bay is mostly made up of 2 resorts, Hotel Akumal Caribe and Akumal Beach Resort, with a few condos and homes on the north end. North Akumal leads to the famous Yalku Lagoon, with Half Moon Bay right in the middle. You will find milti-million dollar private residences, condos and a few small hotels along the way. Most of the homes and condos are available for rent as the majority of owners come and go throughout the year. Akumal Villas can provide you with rental information on most of the luxury villas.
This area sports 3 dive shops, like Akumal Dive Center and fishing charters. For personalized dives check in with Natalie and Ivan. Centro Ecological Akumal, is the organization that monitors our reefs, water quality and the Sea turtles also call Akumal Bay home. There are 2 markets for groceries in town, a library, very nice artisian shops, spas, and of course Akumal Investments is on the beach, nestled between the Beach Bar and the Lol Ha restaurant. Other favorite restuarants and bars in Akumal are: La Lunita, Turtle Bay, Emelda's, Cueva del Pescador and La Buena Vida. Next to our office is also Cafe Te Latte for coffee, ice cream and Internet services. Akumal's most recent addition of restaurants is Tequilaville, located in the Pueblo offering great burgers and buckets of beer.
Walking south of Akumal Bay you will first come to Jade Bay with one of the highest concentrations of turtle nests in the area, a small hotel and more luxury villas. Next comes the exclusive South Akumal boasting more million dollar homes and two condo buildings. Continuing south comes Punta Sur, which encompasses mega homes of over 8,000 square feet with a long rocky shoreline. Rounding the point is Aventuras Akumal with a mix of resorts, condos and more luxury homes on a protected white sand beach.
Another welcome addition to Akumal, adding a touch of class and culture is the artist residency of Ondarte. Once a month, it seems like everyone in Akumal rushes over to be wowed by the works of the rotating international artists on display. Don't miss these events!
