Yalku Lagoon was featured in The National Geographic magazine some years ago. It is a fabulous snorkeling destination and easliy accessible. It has been compared to swimming in an exotic fish aqarium. Water enters the lagoon from a fresh water cenote on the west side and the salt water from the Caribbean Sea enters from the east. The confluence of the waters creates a natural feeding area and attracts large numbers and varieties of fish.

Yalku is considered by many to be the northern most Akumal neighborhood. It is a mixed area of homes, condos and a B&B or two and a cute little restaurant (Que Onda) that is a locals favorite. The pavestone streets encourage walking, bicycling and electric golf carts. It is a low density neighborhod with a lot of trees and gorgeous flowering plants and bushes. 

It is also the location for The Romero Estate, one of the original homes in Akumal.
